NGH Teleseminars

1. What is Tele-learning?

Here at NGH we will be doing an increasing amount of teaching, consulting and coaching on what used to be called "conference calls".  The newer technology is referred to as a "Bridge".  Small bridges allow up to 30 people at a time, while larger bridges can handle up to 150 people!

The system requires either a standard telephone, or a computer. It is fully inter-active, so you can ask questions, make comments, and participate in the class like any other classroom.

The advantages are huge! You can participate from home, work, even on the road! No commuting time or costs! Total privacy.

While still new for many people, tele-learning is rapidly becoming quite common. and several of our members are using it more and more ... to run groups for their clients, to do in-service trainings, offer workshops, and consult with referral sources and experts.  The uses are limited only by our imagination!

2. What is a Teleseminar?

Usually it is a 45-60 minutes long workshop conducted via a telephone conference call. You don't need any special equipment to participate - just a standard telephone and a finger to dial. It's like making a long distance call to a friend, but instead of making a connection with just one friend - you connect with a group of up to 60 people. You can also participate by clicking on the internet link provided for each teleseminar.

3. What is the charge for the Teleseminar? 

The NGH Teleseminars are free, and you will need to pay only for your long distance charges if you are phoning into the bridge line. Most last from 45 minutes to an hour, and with the competitive long distance phone charges today this adds up to very little (less than parking downtown for an hour or two - depending on which downtown.) Of course, there are no phone charges when you are listening to the teleseminar via the computer.

4. What happens during the Teleseminar?

When you call the bridge line you will be asked to enter the access code and you will automatically connect to the conference call. You will then be greeted as you enter the "class-room". It is an interactive combination of information sharing by the instructors and participants. Sometimes you will have an opportunity to introduce yourself to the group, ask questions and make comments. When you attend the teleseminar via the computer, you can type in questions and comments.

5. What number should I dial?

Dial the special telephone number listed below. When you dial the number and enter the access code, you're automatically and immediately in the "room." It's that simple!

· Don't use speaker phones, cell phones, or computer/Internet telephony.

· Schedule uninterrupted time, and do not multi-task while on the call in order to benefit fully.

· Disable call-waiting.

· Use your mute button or *6 except when making a comment or asking a question.

· Call in on time, or just a couple of minutes ahead. And, if you need to leave before the end of the teleseminar, let the leader know. Simply hanging up is equivalent to walking out of the class.

· When commenting and/or asking a question, announce your name and where you are from, "Hi! I'm Ed from Phoenix, and I wondered (question)" Always be brief and to the point.

· Avoid cross-talk between class members which interrupts the flow of the class.

· Pay attention, take lots of notes and have fun. This is a great way to learn!
